USQ’s MBTA Elevator Rises from the Ground

This month, US2 installed the steel for the the MBTA elevator on the 20-50 Prospect Street site. The elevator will provide critical vertical transportation from the Propsect Street bridge to Station Plaza and the MBTA station that was identified as a important community priority during CBA and D2 Planning discussions. The elevator is anticipated to be completed in Q1 2022.

As part of the re-design of the GLX project back in 2015-2016 to reduce the project and maintain project feasibility, vertical transportation at the station was eliminated from the GLX project. In response to community concerns, US2 has worked with the City, MBTA and GLX to incorporate an elevator on the 10-50 Prospect Street site (D2) that will provide better accessibility to the MBTA service area south of the station. In order to support the addition of the MBTA elevator, US2 is designing and constructing the elevator, dedicating a portion of the site for the elevator and funding its share of the cost of the elevator. Ultimately, the elevator will be conveyed to the MBTA for their long-term operation.
