Somerville Community Corporation’s First Source program receives critical resources via pre-funded US2 CBA Funds
Somerville Community Corporation’s First Source workforce development program received a $100,000 grant this month to advance it’s workforce development goals. The grant was underwritten by pre-funded US2 community benefits funds from the USQ project.
The First Source Jobs Programs helps local job seekers gain the skills and training they need to establish a career pathway resulting in good jobs, career growth, and economic resiliency, while providing employers with qualified, local job candidates.
They work to advance economic opportunity for unemployed and underemployed adult workers, people working minimum wage jobs, immigrants, people of color, and front-line workers in Somerville and Boston’s metro north region.
They help job seekers identify and overcome barriers to employment, support job readiness skill development, build social capital and peer support, and become leaders in the community.
The grant funds were designated to support First Source in providing career navigation, career-readiness training, and job placement support services that connect Somerville job seekers with the skills, training and education necessary to qualify for family sustaining jobs with the potential for advancement.
